Best Restaurants 2019 - Javier’s La Jolla

Bar interior at Javier’s La Jolla, featuring a sculptural rope installation across the ceiling, a rope-wrapped column, dark leather barstools and hand-laid mosaic flooring.

The bar at Javier’s La Jolla is enveloped by a dramatic installation of rope that sweeps across the ceiling and descends around a central column. Dark leather seating, warm amber light and intricate hand-laid mosaic flooring contribute to the richly layered resort environment created by Petermax Co. Design in collaboration with Dodd Mitchell.

Ranch & Coast selected Javier’s La Jolla as one of San Diego’s best restaurants for ambience in its 2019 restaurant guide. The publication praises the restaurant’s authentic Mexican specialties and the immersive environment created by Petermax Design in collaboration with Dodd Mitchell.

The 11,000-square-foot restaurant was conceived as a resort-like oasis, pairing oversized leather booths and the glow of more than 750 candles with expressive architectural and material details. A stacked-arch entrance draws inspiration from Greek hillside towns, while the custom mosaic floors were assembled from more than two million hand-laid stones.

The feature recognizes how the design establishes Javier’s as more than a dining destination: its lighting, craftsmanship and enveloping material palette create a distinct atmosphere within Westfield UTC.
