Interior rendering of Austin Sports Club in Austin, Texas, featuring warm wood paneling, green terrazzo flooring, and a refined 1970’s feel to the aesthetic. Designed by Peter Maxwell Bowden and the design team at PETERMAX Co.

6AM City previews the September opening of Austin Sports Club, the new downtown Austin restaurant and entertainment venue backed by former Texas Longhorn and two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant. The project brings together Durant, Boardroom CEO Rich Kleiman, Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, and Lobos Hospitality, with interiors by PETERMAX Co.

The publication describes Austin Sports Club as drawing inspiration from the athletic clubs of the 1960s and ’70s, with vintage locker-room references, museum-style trophy displays, and materials intended to feel collected over time. PETERMAX Co.’s renderings offer an early look at that concept, showing a richly layered interior of warm wood, integrated sports memorabilia, intimate banquettes, marble-topped tables, and a prominent central bar.

Rather than approaching the project as a conventional sports bar, the design channels the atmosphere of an established private athletic club—nostalgic and sports-driven, but polished enough to support a menu centered on refined American food, cocktails, steak, and grilled fish.

Austin Sports Club is scheduled to open September 10 in downtown Austin. The 6AM City feature provides one of the first published looks at the PETERMAX Co.-designed interior ahead of the venue’s opening.
