Kevin Durant-Backed Austin Sports Club Opens Downtown in September

Austin Food Magazine previews the opening of Austin Sports Club, a new downtown destination pairing game-day viewing with a polished restaurant, cocktail and nightlife experience. The concept brings together Austin-based Lobos Hospitality, Boardroom Hospitality—led by Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman—and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia.
PETERMAX Co. designed the 4,700-square-foot interior and 500-square-foot patio, drawing inspiration from the character of American athletic clubs of the 1960s and ’70s. Vintage locker-room references, trophy displays, warm woodwork and collected details give the space a sense of history rather than the appearance of a newly installed sports bar.
The design supports a hospitality concept positioned between a serious restaurant, an elevated cocktail bar and a place to watch major sporting events. The menu reinforces that approach with dishes including Snake River Farms ribeye, grilled branzino, chilled lobster rolls, caviar and tater tots, while the cocktail program carries the athletic theme through drinks such as Wimbledon ’75, The Dagger and The Hat Trick.
