Pretty Decent Concepts Reveals Four New Restaurant and Bar Concepts
Rendering of the Filthy Animal entry in Tempe, one of four new restaurant and bar concepts designed by Peter Bowden and PETERMAX Co. for Pretty Decent Concepts.
Pretty Decent Concepts, the group behind Wren & Wolf and Chico Malo, is developing four new restaurant and bar concepts in Phoenix and Tempe, with interiors designed by Peter Bowden and PETERMAX Co.
In Downtown Phoenix, the group plans to open Cleaverman, a sophisticated steakhouse, alongside Filthy, a hidden martini bar accessed through the steakhouse’s walk-in cooler. Cleaverman is envisioned as a contemporary interpretation of the classic steakhouse, while Filthy will feature a live piano player and a focused program of strong martinis.
In Tempe, the former P.F. Chang’s space at Centerpoint on Mill will be transformed into two distinct concepts: Filthy Animal and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Filthy Animal is planned as a “wild-yet-elegant” restaurant inspired by the beauty and brutality of the jungle, with wood-fire cooking at the center of the experience.
Drop Dead Gorgeous will offer a separate cocktail-lounge experience within the same Tempe development. Together, the two concepts are intended to create a new dining and nightlife destination along Mill Avenue.
The design language across the projects is intentionally varied. The Filthy Animal rendering features dramatic draped fabric, tropical planting, a sculptural entry installation, a curved green host stand, and richly layered wood finishes. Other concepts explore different atmospheres, including the darker, more theatrical interiors proposed for Cleaverman and Filthy.
The four concepts reflect Pretty Decent Concepts’ strategy of creating highly distinctive, locally developed destinations rather than replicating existing restaurant models. Food and beverage programs are being developed by the group’s culinary and beverage leadership teams, with each space receiving its own identity and atmosphere.
