Upscale Delicatessen, Manny’s, Opened in Downtown Austin on April 26
Manny’s in downtown Austin pairs pale grid tile, warm woodwork, woven furnishings and abundant planting to create the bright, restorative atmosphere envisioned by designer Peter Maxwell Bowden. The delicatessen also contains the concealed entrance to Powder Room, an intimate cocktail lounge designed as its darker and more mysterious counterpart.
What Now Austin covers the opening of Manny’s, a community-focused downtown delicatessen created by Lobos Hospitality. The restaurant serves sandwiches, salads, bowls and smoothies made with fresh ingredients in an environment designed to function as both a neighborhood gathering place and a retreat from the surrounding city.
Designer Peter Maxwell Bowden drew from Mid-Century influences to give Manny’s a bright, fresh and intimate atmosphere. In the article, Bowden describes the restaurant as “a sanctuary from a city that never sleeps” and explains that its sense of surprise and discovery allows each guest to experience the space differently.
Manny’s also contains the concealed entrance to Powder Room, a contrasting cocktail lounge designed by Bowden with soft lighting and retro details. The relationship between the two spaces allows the energy of the hidden lounge to filter into the delicatessen while giving guests the experience of discovering an entirely different world behind the daytime restaurant.
