Take a Peek Inside the New Gurney’s Residences in Montauk
An oceanfront living room and terrace at the Gurney’s Residences in Montauk opens directly toward the beach and Atlantic horizon. Peter Maxwell Bowden and PETERMAX Co. designed the residences around these expansive water views, pairing clean architectural lines and a restrained coastal palette with indoor-outdoor spaces intended to feel like private luxury hotel suites. Town & Country takes readers inside the new residences at Gurney’s Montauk, highlighting Peter Maxwell Bowden and PETERMAX Co. as the design team behind both the original oceanfront homes and the six newly introduced “Point of View” residences.
The homes were conceived to make the Atlantic Ocean the defining feature from the moment guests enter. PETERMAX Co. used an organic, modern palette, soft furnishings, pale woods and open living spaces to frame the water while maintaining the relaxed character of Montauk. Private terraces extend that experience outdoors, while resort services—including butler and home-maintenance amenities—give the residences the ease of luxury hotel suites.
The article also discusses Bowden’s work at Gurney’s Newport Resort and Marina, where he adapted the brand’s established sophistication to a much larger waterfront property. His approach drew from Newport’s maritime history while giving the resort its own identity within the broader Gurney’s portfolio.
